Gadgets - What's New

After a lot of rumors for a long time, the Sony Ericsson Hikaru has finally been leaked. It’s a really sleek and small Walkman phone (slider similar to the W580) and has a whooping 8 megapixel camera and a number of connectivity options.

It also accommodates a monstrous 2.6 inch TFT screen. The 8 megapixel camera has auto focus and even has an LED flash. In addition, you’ll also get an 8GB card with the phone itself.

As if these weren’t enough, the Hikaru will also have GPS and Wi-Fi onboard. A 3.5mm headset port (finally, I, and I’m sure everyone, have been waiting for this for an excruciatingly long time) is incorporated in the phone.

However, readers should take note of the fact that it runs on the normal user – interface which is associated with the normal java Sony Ericsson phones. It is NOT a smartphone.

The Hikaru is also armed with the newest Walkman player, version 4.0. It also has stereo (dual) speakers (something which every music-dedicated phone should have, IMO) and also comes with some dedicated music keys.

Last, but not least, the Hikaru will come equipped with a kickstand at its back, somewhere around the digital camera (something like you get in the N96, but more cool) which can be really useful when you’re viewing videos in landscape mode  and the phone is on your desk.

The Hikaru is slated to be announced on February 15th, just before MWC 2009 starts in Barcelona.
